Care Focus Somerset
Care Focus Somerset
Care Focus Somerset is responsible for distributing funds to care providers in Somerset. We aim to ensure a fair system whereby all have access to the funding application process.
We pro-actively seek out any new funding sources that might be available for care providers in Somerset. We also offer advice on the sources of funding available, how to access funding and the most appropriate training for care staff
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT FUND (WDF)
This funding is disseminated by Care Focus on behalf of Skills for Care. This funding is a contribution towards the cost of some QCF and NVQ units, completed since January 2011.
The QCF and NVQ units that this funding will cover are identified within this document (click here).
Please note that NVQ units are now eligible until the end of this financial year.
All units and credits must have been signed and verified by the 16th March 2012 to qualify for funding. All claims for QCF credits and NVQ units need to be with us by the 22nd March 2012.
If you are an adult social care employer and have completed your NMDS-SC, you are able to claim £8.50 per QCF credit and £68 per NVQ unit. See NMDS information below.
Please contact us for evidence requirements, or download the Guide to Funding below..
nts fUnding
As an Adult Social Care provider, you are able to claim funding through NTS to support the development of your workforce, which directly effects the quality of care provided to your service users. This funding is provided through the Area Based Grant from Somerset County Council. There is a funding request form to be completed for us to assess each claim on an individual basis. We will then consider your claim and confirm whether or not we can help with funding. At this stage a full application and additional evidence will then be required.
Examples of awards you can request funding for are Care of Medicines, Nutrition based qualifications, Moving & Handling of People, etc. You can submit a request for any training your staff have done that directly impacts on your service users. Please note that you can not claim for units covered by the WDF as above.
You do not need to submit a request for Common Induction Standards. This is available at a fixed rate of £85 per person. Simply complete an NTS request form and an application form and send both to us along with a copy of their certificate.
The NTS grant is MATCH FUNDING, which means we can help fund towards up to 50% of the overall cost. It is also limited to £1000.00 per establishment, in the funding year. When making a claim for this we therefore require a full receipt from your training provider, along with certification as evidence. Any training must be accredited and have taken place in 2011.

NMDS INFORMATION
REMEMBER – For an establishment to be eligible for the Workforce Development Fund in 2011-12, the
following three criteria must be met:
1. An establishment which has completed an NMDS-SC organisational record before 1 April
2011 must fully update its organisational data.
2. The establishment must fully complete individual NMDS-SC worker records for a minimum of
90% of its total workforce (this includes any staff who are not care-providing).
3. Individual records for workers completed before 1 April 2011 which are included in the 90%
calculation must be both fully completed and updated.
Those establishments who remained eligible up until the 31 October 2011 through having achieved
eligibility in 2010-11 will need to meet the criteria above after the 31 October 2011. Any
establishment who has updated as per the requirements of the above criteria will retain eligibility for
the full financial year.
Please note that the completion of NMDS-SC is now imperative for funding to be claimed. Details can be found in the attachment here for the exact requirements. If you would like any help with your NMDS-SC completion, please contact us to arrange an appointment when we can visit you and guide you through the process.
If you are unsure about claiming and the process, please ask! We can come out to see you and go through the forms and what you need to send us.
If you have any questions please speak to Shirley or Denise on 01823 461876 or email enquiries@carefocussomerset.org
All funding is discretionary, may be limited and cannot be guaranteed. Please send us your claims as soon as possible to allow us to submit swiftly. The above details may be amended later in the year in line with the Qualifications Credits Framework (QCF).
